L'nianaia tunika i tkatskii stanok [Linen tunic and loom]
The article attempts to correlate the construction of linen tunics discovered in the Deir el-Banat necropolis during expeditions carried out by the Center for Egyptological Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (2009–2014) with the width of the looms used in their production. The analyzed material provides insights into economic capabilities of the population that once inhabited this region. The finds suggest a relatively low economic level: the most of garments were domestically produced with minimal colored decoration woven directly into the fabric. Purchasing power appears to have been generally limited. A small number of exceptional specimens, however, indicate the presence of a wealthier minority, who could afford expensive and probably prestige-oriented items.
