K voprosu o nekotorykh osobennostiakh monumental'noi syrtsovoi arkhitektury Saisskogo perioda [On the question of some features of the monumental mud brick architecture of the Saite period]
During the Saite period, fortifications were built in Egypt, especially in the Nile Delta. At the same time a palace complex was created in Memphis, named in the literature «Palace of Apries and military camp». The complex, as well as the Delta fortifications, were built on a similar principle and from a single material, mud brick. These buildings were characterized by a platform, a massive ramp and fortification walls. However, the Delta’s buildings were purely defensive, while the palace was also the site of official ceremonies associated with the king’s coronation.
