Praviashchii dom Mavretanii v sem'e postellinisticheskikh dinastii Sredizemnomor'ia I v. n. e. [Royal house of Mauretania in the Post-Hellenistic dynasties of Mediterranean in the 1st century AD]

The article provides a historical and genealogical overview of the dynastic history of Mauretania, an ancient North African client kingdom founded in 25 BC and incorporated into the Roman Empire in 40 AD. Examines the genealogy of Mauretanian rulers Juba II and Ptolemy, ‘friends of the Caesars and the Roman people’, their kinship with other monarchs of the Hellenistic and post-Hellenistic states of the Mediterranean (Egypt, Emesa, Parthia, Cappadocia, etc.), and with the Roman emperors from the Julio-Claudian dynasty (descendants of the triumvir Mark Antony). In particular, the versions of the origin of king’s Ptolemy wife Julia Urania are highlighted, the opinion is shared about the marriage of king’s Ptolemy daughter princess Drusilla with a representative of royal house of Emesa, and a new view of the continuation of the Mauretanian royal dynasty along the female line in Emesa and Palmyra is presented. The research is based on the analysis of narrative material, ancient epigraphic and numismatic sources.
