Mummification in Ancient Egypt: historiography and modern methods of studying



Mummified remains of individuals are extremely valuable evidence about life, death and funerary rites of ancient people. In order to get this information, scholars and scientists can use various modern scientific methods. This article is devoted to different aspects of studying of ancient Egyptian mummies. The author defines a term 'mummy', briefly describes technological changes and procedures in mummification in different periods of ancient Egyptian history as well as historiography of its studying. The author also reviews different modern methods of ancient Egyptian mummies studying.
