Sinii tsvet v Egipte [The blue colour in Egypt]

The article is focused on a phenomenon of ‘vat’ dyeing. This method, typical for ‘Coptic’ textiles, allows getting a deep blue color — the so-called indigo. Extraction, processing and use of raw materials to obtain a dye solution are associated with a number of technological difficulties, which are listed in this work. The process of transformation of indigorose plants in pigment indigotin is viewed through the case of Isatis tinctoria L. used in Egypt.
